Bench Fitting

Bench work has its own essential position in all engineering works.

Components often require hand operations to be done on them to finish to the desired accuracy or fit to function, a fitter’s work is unavoidable when different parts are to be assembled in position after they have been finished, alignment of machine parts, bearings, engine slide valves and similar other works call for a fitter’s work, reconditioning and refitting of machines and machine parts cannot be done without a skilled fitter, all the above types of works require the use of a large number of hand tools and a fitter must have good working knowledge of all these tools and instruments.

At Black Rose Engineering we have a wealth of fitting experience across a wide range of disciplines from Special Purpose Machine Tools to Press Tool repairs and trials, we are happy to look at any mechanical issues on plant machinery to give engineering solutions to breakdowns etc.

Manual Milling

Milling is a cutting process used in the engineering industry. A cutter rotates to remove material from a workpiece to provide the required surfaces, angles, holes, slots, radii etc.

The whole milling process is to remove material with separate tiny cuts. The spinning cutter operates at high speed making the process quick, but the speed depends on which material is being used. There are many different types of cutters for various processes for example; end mills, Slot drills, Face mills etc.

At Black Rose Engineering we can mill a range of different materials, ferrous, non ferrous, plastics and composites to complex shapes and geometries with a high degree of accuracy.

Manual Turning

Manual Turning is the process in which a cutting tool shapes a rotating workpiece usually for cylindrical objects, When turning, the workpiece is rotated and a is traversed along 1, 2, or 3 axes of motion to produce precise diameters and depths. Turning can be either on the outside of the cylinder or on the inside, known as boring to produce tubular components to various geometries, lathes can also be used to produce complex geometric figures.

At Black Rose Engineering we can turn a range of different materials ferrous, non ferrous, plastics and composites to produce diameters, bores and complex geometries with a high degree of accuracy.

Surface Grinding

Surface grinding is the most common of the grinding operations. It is a finishing process that uses a rotating abrasive wheel to produce a highly accurate flat surface on metallic or nonmetallic components usually used when materials need to be in a hard state such as gauges or highly wear resistant components, surface grinding provides a highly accurate finishing process that can not usually be achieved in milling applications due to hardness of materials.

At Black Rose Engineering we can grind a range of different materials to produce highly accurate surfaces at complex geometries.

Cylindrical Grinding

Cylindrical grinding is an operation used to shape the outside of an object where the material is hard and a high degree of accuracy is required. The cylindrical grinder can work on a variety of shapes, however the object must have a central axis of rotation. This includes but is not limited to such shapes as a cylinder, an ellipse, a cam, or a crankshaft.

At Black Rose Engineering we can grind a range of different materials to produce highly accurate cylindrical surfaces.

Welding, TIG, MIG, MMA

TIG stands for tungsten inert gas and is technically called gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW). The process uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode that delivers the current to the welding arc. The tungsten and weld puddle are protected and cooled with an inert gas, typically argon.

MIG welding is an arc welding process in which a continuous solid wire electrode is fed through a welding gun and into the weld pool, joining the two base materials together. A shielding gas is also sent through the welding gun and protects the weld pool from contamination. In fact, MIG stands for metal inert gas.

Manual metal arc (MMA) welding is a welding process where the electric arc burns between a coated electrode and the workpiece. The electrode is fixed in an electrode holder and touches shortly the area that is to be joined.

At Black Rose Engineering we can weld many different materials for various applications both ferrous and non ferrous, ranging from general fabrications to the repair of exotic high carbon and hardened steels including pre and post heating processes to protect exotics.

Jig and Fixture manufacture

At Black Rose Engineering we can produce machining/checking jigs and fixtures to print or design and make them to suit a physical supplied sample thus reducing the cost of up front design and cutting down on lead time for fast paced or short deadline projects, we can also produce spares or repair current fixtures to customer specific requirements.
